About Us

The North Redwoods Book Arts Guild, or NORBAG, was founded in 1995 to promote, encourage and educate participants and the wider community about book arts (traditional as well as non-traditional forms of bookbinding) and related arts.

What started out as a local Humboldt County, California group has grown to be international just by word-of-mouth. Sixty percent of our members live outside the area and are located throughout California, Oregon, Washington, across the United States and as far away as England and Canada.

Some of our members are quite experienced in book arts and teach workshops and take part in exhibitions outside the area. Others are complete beginners who have never made a book.

Our monthly meetings feature workshops, a voluntary book exchange, and access to selections from our extensive lending library of how-to books.

We maintain a rotating display at the Humboldt County Library featuring books made by our members. We’ve had several exhibitions including, most recently, an annual show at Eureka Books since 2008.

We also publish a monthly newsletter that has information about the Guild, book arts in general, and a project to make with detailed instructions.
